"When we go to Korea to learn, Koreans treats us as Japanese. We may have been born and raised in Japan, but we are Korean."

There are people who have shed tears in a foreign land, who have been unable to return to their homelands for decades. They are the Korean diaspora who were forcefully migrated or conscripted during the Japanese Colonial Rule. Diaspora Arirang investigates the lives of these Koreans living in a Korean-Japanese town in Ikunoku, Osaka in Japan, From Primorskii Krai and Moscow to Volgo-grad and the republic of Kal-mee-kia, depicting their memories and longing expressed in "Arirang", the song of their motherland, which consoled their tearful and difficult lives and re-migration in a foreign land. Also, this documentary shows 2nd generation Korean-Japanese and Korean-Russian learning about traditional Korean culture and history in order to have pride as a Korean and to remember their roots.

Part 1 Pain of Separation
The lives of Korean-Japanese in Osaka have been painful?We take a glimpse into their lives as they remained steadfast during their time of suffering, with only the song of their motherland "Arirang" to comfort them.

Part 2 Song of the Wind
We look into the memories the Korean Diaspora in the far-off land of Primorskii Krai, Russia, have of "Arirang", a song that gave them consolation during their time of hardships. Especially, the production team set out to find the traces of the Korean- Russians dispersed around Volgo-grad and the Republic of Kal-mee-kia.
