N. Korea says it will never back down on boosting "self-defense measures" Updated: 2022-07-02 15:53:28 KST

North Korea says it will never back down when it comes to boosting what it calls "self-defense" measures to protect the regime's dignity and national sovereignty. The North's state media reported Pyeongyang's latest statement on Saturday in response to the G7 leaders' call on the North last week to abandon its nuclear and missile programs in a complete, verifiable, and irreversible manner. The director-general of the international organizations department at the North's foreign ministry, Jo Chol-su, argued that the regime's steps to strengthen its military capabilities are a (quote)"reasonable and legitimate exercise of the right to self-defense" to shield its interests from Washington's threats.
