Russia ramped up its missile strikes on Ukraine over the weekend, even as the leaders of the G7 met in Germany.
On Sunday, missiles hit an apartment block as well as a kindergarten in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, marking the first such attack there in weeks.
The city's deputy mayor says one person was killed and six wounded.
Russian missiles also struck the central city of Cherkasy, killing one, and destroying a strategic bridge linking western Ukraine and battlefields in the east.
The Ukrainian military says the long-range missiles were fired from Russian bombers more than one thousand kilometers away.
