Pope Francis on Sunday installed 16 men and women as lectors and (kat-e-kists) catechists, highlighting the faith and role of the (lay-e-tee) laity in sharing the Gospel.
This marks a break with what had been church law reserving those ministries for men only, despite women performing those functions for a long time without formal designation.
The six women who've been installed, include a South Korean, who's currently studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
