South Korea reported its second-biggest daily number of COVID-19 cases this Sunday.
A total of 7,630 new infections were reported up 622 from the previous day.
The daily tally has been gradually rising at a fast pace from about 4-thousand cases early this week to over 7-thousand during the weekend.
Health authorities have warned of a resurge in virus cases due to the fast spreading Omicron variant, saying it could become the dominant COVID-19 variant in the country.
Since the daily number of coronavirus cases has exceeded 7-thousand for two straight days, the government is likely to shift to a new medical response system to contain the virus.
