The American ophthalmologist credited for pioneering the medical use of Botox, Dr. Alan Scott, has died aged 89.
According to the New York Times on Tuesday, "The Father of Botox" passed away on December 16th in California.
Botox is a neurotoxin the Department of Defense tried to develop as a biological weapon during World War II.
However, in the 1970s Dr. Scott successfully developed it as a medical treatment for eye impairments and other illnesses.
Since then, the drug has also been widely used for cosmetic purposes, due to its ability to paralyze targeted muscles and smooth out the wrinkles around them.
