Coronavirus cases continue to hit new highs in other countries, including the U.S., the UK and Japan.
With the spread of the Omicron variant, the seven day average in the U.S. rose to a record high on Friday of just under 650-thousand, which is three times the number reported two weeks earlier.
And on Saturday, the UK saw total COVID-19 deaths surpass 150-thousand, making it the seventh country to reach that number.
In Japan, the number of daily cases has risen 16 fold in a single week, prompting the authorities to institute a quasi state of emergency in three prefectures.
These prefectures are Okinawa, Yamaguchi and Hiroshima, where businesses will now have to shorten their operation hours and stop serving alcohol.
