Addressing the nation after the launch of the Nuri, President Moon Jae-in had words of praise for all those involved in the project despite the vehicle not perfectly reaching its target.
Moon had observed the launch on-site at the Naro Space Center.
He said it was a remarkable achievement for the rocket to have reached an altitude of 700 kilometers and that South Korea has taken a step closer to space.
Moon added that the Nuri program will make up for those shortcomings and prepare for a successful launch next May.
The president said further that the country will continue in its efforts to land a probe on the moon by 2030.
