Lunar New Year gift limit doubled for public servants, child abuse law strengthened Updated: 2021-01-19 16:52:31 KST

Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday next month, South Korea is easing the rules on the price of gifts that can be given to civil servants a strict limit set by a law meant to stop corruption.
The limit has been doubled to 200-thousand won, which is about 180 U.S. dollars but only for gifts that are food products.
Also, President Moon Jae-in has signed into law tougher punishments for companies responsible for workplace injuries and deaths.
And to protect children from abuse, he has signed a law that will require investigators to open a probe immediately when suspected child abuse is reported either by childcare centers, social workers or doctors.
