S. Korea reports 27 new cases of COVID-19, one additional death Updated: 2020-05-31 14:25:09 KST

South Korea has reported 27 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, the first time in five days it's had fewer than 30.
Of the new cases, 15 of them were transmitted locally.
That brings the total number of cases in the country to 11,468, and with one more death, the death toll is now 270.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters attributed the slowdown in new cases to its tracing of infections linked to a logistics center in the city of Bucheon, which it says is nearly complete.

"On Monday, we will start a trial run of electronic directories utilizing IT technology, and start full-scale application in the month of June. But this is not enough. The proportion of new cases with unidentified infection routes stands at seven percent. This means we need preemptive measures to sift out asymptomatic carriers, especially in high-risk facilities other than logistics centers."

The health authorities remain on high alert because of the risk of another wave now with schools reopening.
Starting this Wednesday, high school freshmen as well as students in the second year of middle school and the third and fourth grades of elementary school are going back to class.
Students in the fifth and sixth grades of elementary school and the first year of middle school are scheduled to go back on June 8th.
The authorities believe the next two weeks will be a watershed in Korea's fight against local transmissions of the virus, and have said they may strengthen social distancing measures if the virus is not contained.
The government has been strengthening quarantine measures at high-risk facilities.
It has temporarily shut down museums, art galleries and other public facilities like parks.
The government has also advised private academies, singing rooms and internet cafes in the Seoul metropolitan area to stay closed until June 14th.
