Defense ministry confirms its plan to deploy indigenous medium-range anti-aircraft missile Cheolmae-II by 2023 Updated: 2018-08-21 14:44:23 KST

South Korea plans to deploy the nation's locally developed medium-range surface-to-air missile, the Cheolmae-II ( two) by 2023.
The defense ministry announced Tuesday, that the military had been reviewing its previous plan, made in 2009, to deploy the Cheolmae-II missile interceptors, based on whether it was still capable of countering North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.
The defense ministry's spokesperson said, after a thorough examination of the country's readiness and combat capabilities against the North Korean missile threat, and the efficient use of the assigned budget, among other considerations, that it has decided to stick to its original plan of deploying seven Cheolmae-II missile batteries by 2023.
