Star actress Kim Hye-ja has won an award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Saturday, for her leading role in the Korean movie "Mother."
The critics highly appraised Kim's realistic depiction of a mother who would do anything for her son.

The movie, which tells the disturbing story of how a mother covers her son's crime by killing a key witness, was not received favorably in Korea, but foreign critics gave it high marks.
[Interview : Kim Hye-ja, Award-winning actress] "The movie wasn't quite suitable for Korean viewers, but here in LA and Cannes, I guess critics had an open mind."
Kim, with nearly 50 years of acting experience, became the first Asian actress to receive the esteemed award, and spoke highly of the movie's director Bong Joon-ho, saying that Bong has an exceptional feel for creating a film that reaches out to worldwide viewers.
