China's Xinhua News Agency reports the People's Liberation Army Navy recently conducted tests for underwater weapons.
The report says the tests were carried out in the deep ocean but it did not specify the exact location of the test site nor the details of the weapons.
However, it is known that there were dozens of types of weapons involved including torpedoes and deep-sea explosives.
It is the first time that the Chinese navy conducted an open test and speculations are that it was a protest against the planned dispatch of the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS George Washington to the West Sea.
