Australian rugby player Ellia Green is the first Olympian to transition from female to male.
Green officially made the announcement on Tuesday while speaking through video at Ottawa's "Transphobia and Homophobia in Sport" summit.
The summit was held around the gay and inclusive biennial Bingham Cup, often referred to as rugby's "gay World Cup."
Green is a former member of Australia's women's rugby sevens team, which took gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The 29-year-old made the transition after retiring from the sport and had gender reaffirming surgery in November 2021.
In the announcement, Green also criticized the October 2020 decision by World Rugby, to ban transgender women from participating in women's rugby events.
