S. Korea's new COVID-19 cases jump to 4-month high of over 170,000 Updated: 2022-08-17 09:16:02 KST

South Korea's new COVID-19 infection numbers hit a four-month high recording one-hundred-75,7-hundred-65 new cases as of 9 PM Tuesday.
This number is the highest since April 12th when there were over 1-hundred-90-thousand new infections.
Tuesday night's new numbers were also up 94-thousand cases from the same time a day earlier as fewer tests were done during the 3-day weekend for National Liberation Day.
With 37 more COVID-19 deaths reported on Tuesday, the total number of deaths now stands at 25,710.
In recent weeks, South Korea has been seeing the omicron subvariant BA.5 spread quickly amid the summer vacation season.
Local health authorities forecast new virus cases to peak at around 200-thousand this month before slowing down.
