S. Korea reports 137,241 new cases of COVID-19; reinfections rising Updated: 2022-08-11 17:27:33 KST

South Korea on Thursday confirmed more than 137-thousand new cases of COVID-19.
The KDCA warned that the virus is spreading rapidly and that people are getting reinfected in a shorter period of time.
As of June, reinfection was happening at an average interval of seven months, but as of July it was five months.
Around half of reinfections are among people younger than 17 and those who are not vaccinated.
The health authorities say they expect daily cases to soon reach 200-thousand.
They promised to strengthen quarantine measures, especially for places like nursing homes where people are at high risk.
There were also 59 more COVID-19 related deaths, while the number of severe cases is at 418.
