Cold showers in Germany as Hanover city reacts to Russian gas crisis Updated: 2022-07-29 09:12:43 KST

Public buildings in the German city of Hanover have turned off their gas for heating.
Hot water won't be available for hand washing in public buildings or showers at sports facilities.
This comes as Hanover tries to conserve gas to reach the 15-percent gas reduction target set by the EU in an effort to reduce reliance on Russian supplies.
Public buildings will also not have any room heating from April to the end of September each year with heating temperatures capped at 20-degrees Celsius for the other months.
Additional energy saving measures include Berlin switching off spotlights on public monuments, and turning off fountains in the capital.
Germans have been told to expect further gas reduction measures and increased spending on energy bills.
