Kentucky flooding kills at least 8, damages hundreds of homes Updated: 2022-07-29 09:12:43 KST

In the U.S. there's been flooding in the state of Kentucky
At least eight people have been killed and several are missing following flooding in eastern Kentucky's Appalachia foothills.
Governor Andy Beshear said the death toll is expected to climb to double digits, adding that hundreds of homes have been damaged.
He described the event as one of the most significant and deadly floods the state has seen in a long time.
The governor deployed the National Guard to rescue those stranded on rooftops, while declaring a state of emergency to free up much needed resources.
The floods come as the state was battered by torrential rains on Wednesday, with multiple reports of flooding early on Thursday local time.
Meanwhile, 25-thousand other residents have been left without power.
The national weather service says rain is expected to continue through Friday.
