WHO calls U.S. abortion ruling a "setback" Updated: 2022-06-30 10:35:00 KST

The World Health Organization has denounced a recent U.S. ruling that no longer acknowledges the constitutional right to abortion.
Speaking to members of the media Wednesday WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called the ruling "a setback" that would cost lives as decades of scientific data proves safe and legal abortions can save lives.
He went on to forecast that many women and girls would suffer from complications and even death owing to unsafe and illegal practices.
Last week the U.S. Supreme Court ended constitutional protections for abortion which had been in place for almost half a century.
