With the summer monsoon here now, South Korea's Ministry of Unification has asked the North to send notice if it plans to discharge floodwater from dams near the border to prevent damage to people or property in the area something that has happened in years past.
The Unification Ministry made the request in a public briefing Tuesday publicly because South Korea got no response from the North this morning on the hotlines the two sides use for regular contact.
According to a Unification Ministry official, this may have been due to technical malfunctions caused by the monsoon rain in the North.
The hotlines have since been restored, but as of 4 PM there's been no response from Pyeongyang on the matter of sending prior notice of outgoing floodwater.
