North Korea is set to take over next Monday as chair of the UN forum on disarmament, which has prompted protets from dozens of UN-accredited NGOs.
The disarmament forum is the body with 65 members that negotiated the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
The North will be leading the forum for four weeks.
The 30 NGOs are calling for a walkout by ambassadors from democratic states, including the U.S., Canada, the UK, and EU members.
In a statement Thursday, the Director of UN Watch, one of the 30 NGOs, said making the regime the head of a nuclear weapons disarmament forum is like (quote) "putting a rapist in charge of a women's shelter."
