President Yoon Suk-yeol presided over his first National Security Council meeting this morning and ordered his officials to implement "Seoul-Washington extended deterrence" and strengthen the South Korea-U.S. joint defense posture.
The officials took note of the fact that North Korea's missile test was conducted before U.S. President Joe Biden had even arrived home from his Northeast Asia trip.
After the NSC meeting, the government issued a statement "strongly" condemning North Korea's missile launch calling it an "unlawful act" and a "grave provocation" threatening peace.
It added the regime's continued provocations will inevitably result in a stronger Seoul-Washington joint deterrence.
The statement also urged Pyeongyang to abide by the UNSC resolutions and respond to calls for dialogue.
