The defense chiefs of South Korea and the U.S. held phone talks Wednesday, condemning North Korea for its recent ballistic missile launches and apparent preparations for a nuclear test.
South Korea's Lee Jong-sup and Lloyd Austin also discussed ways to maintain a strong combined defense posture -- including joint military drills.
Lee also highlighted the importance of deploying U.S. strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula.
This was their first phone call since Lee was confirmed last week.
