Fmr. vice FM Cho Tae-yong named as S. Korea's new ambassador to U.S. Updated: 2022-05-17 22:33:01 KST

President Yoon Suk-yeol has appointed former vice foreign minister Cho Tae-yong as South Korea's new ambassador to the U.S.
The current People Power Party lawmaker previously served as deputy director of the National Security Office as well as Seoul's top nuclear envoy.
The appointment comes as President Yoon places priority on the Seoul-Washington alliance.
As for the new chief of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Yoon named Sungkyunkwan University Professor Peck Kyong-ran who had previously partaken in the presidential transition committee.
Meanwhile Professor Kim So-young from Seoul National University was tapped as Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission.
