N. Korea's Kim Jong-un condemns late supply of medicine during Politburo meeting; Pyeongyang asks Beijing for anti-virus supplies Updated: 2022-05-16 05:42:06 KST

North Korea reported over 3-hundred-90-thousand new suspected cases of COVID-19 or what it calls a "fever of an unknown cause" on Monday.
8 additional deaths were also reported.
That's according to the state's National Emergency Quarantine Command Center.
Amid escalating infections, the regime's leader Kim Jong-un pointed to issues with the supply of previously ordered medication to pharmacies, at a politburo meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Meanwhile, in an effort to contain the virus, Pyeongyang has reportedly asked Beijing for anti-virus supplies.
According to sources familiar with North Korea-China relations on Sunday, relevant discussions are underway.
China has previously said it will provide assistance immediately upon the North's request.
The border between the two countries remains closed to contain the virus, but could reopen for supply shipments.
