N. Korea confirms around 18,000 new COVID-19 cases, six deaths on Thursday Updated: 2022-05-13 06:19:11 KST

North Korea says around 18-thousand people tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, and reported six related deaths.
This comes as the regime's state-run media reported Thursday that the North had identified its first infection, calling the situation a "major national emergency."
The Korean Central News Agency said Kim Jong-un visited the National Quarantine Emergency Command Center, where he explained that the spread proves there are loopholes in the North's quarantine system.
The report added that over 350-thousand North Koreans have suffered from unidentified fever since late April, of which around 160-thousand have fully recovered.
