The U.S. Senate failed to advance a Democratic-led bill Wednesdayto protect abortion access nationwide.
This comes as all 50 Republicans and Democratic Senator Joe Manchin joined the debating against advancing the bill leaving Democrats far short of the 60-vote needed to defeat the filibuster.
The vote was triggered by a leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court indicating that it may be poised to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling -- which protects abortion rights.
The vote was largely seen by Democratic leaders as an opportunity to expand their base ahead of November's mid-terms amid declining approval ratings for President Joe Biden over inflation concerns.
