The U.S. Senate failed to advance a Democratic-led bill Wednesdayto protect abortion access nationwide.
All 50 Republican and Democratic Senator Joe Manchin joined the debating against advancing the bill leaving Democrats far short of the 60-votes needed to defeat the filibuster.
The vote was triggered by a leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court indicating it may overturn the Roe v. Wade ruling which protects abortion rights.
Pundits saw the vote as an opportunity for the Democrats to try and booster its base's enthusiasm ahead of November's mid-terms as President Biden's approval ratings continue to tank.
