World News: Warhol's 1964 portrait of Marilyn Monroe sells for US$ 195 mil. at NYC auction Updated: 2022-05-11 04:58:07 KST

Andy Warhol's 1964 portrait of Marilyn Monroe has sold for 195 million U.S. dollars at an auction in New York City.
Monday's sale is a record for a piece by an American artist, breaking the previous record set in 2017, when a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat sold for 110.5-million-dollars.
"Shot Sage Blue Marilyn" is one of a series of portraits Warhol made of the actress, following her death in 1962, and is one of pop art's best-known pieces.
Under hammer price, the portrait sold for 170 million-dollars, with fees adding on an extra 25 million.
