White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said in a briefing Monday that the justifications given by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the invasion of Ukraine were "patently false and absurd."
She was referring to Putin's speech Monday for Victory Day in which he said the West had left him "no choice" but to invade Ukraine and that NATO was "creating threats" next to his country.
Meanwhile, the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa on Monday released footage of Russian missiles hitting hotels and a shopping center.
According to CNN, an official there said three of Russia's new hypersonic missiles were fired from a plane and and hit what he referred to as a "tourist infrastructure target."
