Korean Air shifts to net profit in 2021 on cargo deals Updated: 2022-01-27 22:38:05 KST

Korean Air shifted to a net profit last year on increased cargo deals offsetting a sharp decline in passenger travel due to COVID-19.
The country's biggest carrier announced its operating profit jumped more than five-fold to 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2021.
Sales rose 18 percent to 7.3 billion dollars.
This comes as sales from cargo deals went up 58 percent on-year at nearly 5 billion dollars -- accounting for some three quarters of the total.
That's roughly six times compared to sales coming from travel.
The uptick is largely attributed to rising global demand for cargo transportation.
