President Moon expresses hope for smart city, energy cooperation between S. Korea-UAE Updated: 2022-01-17 17:10:30 KST

President Moon Jae-in in the United Arab Emirates gave a keynote speech on carbon neutrality and clean energy at the opening of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on Monday.
Held at the Dubai Expo, Sustainability Week brings together global leaders from government, business and technology to support the acceleration of climate action and net zero commitments.
For details, we have our senior Blue House correspondent Kim Min-ji who's traveling with the president on the line.
Min-ji, I understand President Moon called for bolstered cooperation between Seoul and Abu Dhabi?

President Moon Jae-in says he hopes to create synergy through smart city cooperation between South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
Moon on a working visit to the UAE gave a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
Launched in 2008, it is the largest energy-related event hosted by the UAE to promote international participation for a sustainable society and economic development.
Moon is the first South Korean President to speak at the annual event.

The UAE began investing in the construction of eco-friendly cities from an early stage. South Korea is also building two smart test cities. If our two countries combine our experiences and advantages, we will be able to create the most exemplary smart city.

Seoul is also hoping to boost hydrogen cooperation with the Middle Eastern country, including the fostering of hydrogen-powered public transport systems for hydrogen cities.
South Korea and the UAE share the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and cutting methane emissions by 30 percent by 2030.

What else does President Moon have scheduled for the rest of the day, before he wraps up his UAE trip?

President Moon and First Lady Kim Jung-sook will visit the Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital which is run by Seoul National University Hospital to encourage and thank the Korean staff there.
It's an example of successful health cooperation between South Korea and the UAE.
South Korea not only offers medical services but is involved in the overall management of the hospital.
Over 100 South Koreans work there, which includes 54 doctors and 44 nurses.
Planned talks have been canceled, though, between President Moon and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan due to what the UAE said was an "unforeseen and urgent matter of state."
That's all I have for now, back to you.
