The number of new deaths also hit a record high at 56 as did the number of severely ill patients, which jumped to 6-hundred 47.
President Moon Jae-in will be chairing a meeting at the Blue House on Monday to review the current COVID-19 situation.
There, stricter virus prevention curbs will be decided.
Authorities will also decide whether to add a six-month expiration date to COVID-19 vaccine passes.
