Beijing will be the first in China to have self-driving taxis.
The city's government approved commercial self-driving taxi services paving the way for more cities to follow.
Two companies Baidu and Pony AI were given the go-ahead following successful trial periods.
For now, their so-called "robotaxis" will be able to operate in a designated area of 60 square kilometers within the city, and with someone accompanying the passengers on board.
The two companies have yet to announce their fees but watchers predict the rates will be similar to those of normal taxis.
