President Moon Jae-in has named Kim Jin-kook as his new senior secretary for civil affairs and justice.
The appointment on Thursday follows the resignation of Shin Hyun-soo from the post over the recent appointment of top prosecutors.
Shin claims his suggestions on the prosecutor reshuffle were ignored.
The newly appointed senior secretary Kim worked as a lawyer before serving as the secretary to the president for legal affairs during former President Roh Moo-hyun's administration.
He is currently an official at the Board of Audit and Inspection.
