The U.S. State Department on Friday added a North Korean official who oversees the development of nuclear weapons to its sanctions list.
The decision is based on the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act, which authorizes the U.S. to impose sanctions against foreign individuals, entities, and governments that engage in nuclear proliferation activities.
The newly listed individual is Rim Ryong-nam, a high ranking official in the North's Machine-Building Industry Department, which is in charge of the military sector in general.
The order was made while former President Trump was in office and is valid for two years.
