184 countries signed up to vaccine initiative: WHO Updated: 2020-10-20 10:05:20 KST

One-hundred-84 countries have joined the COVAX Facility, an initiative aiming to finance COVID-19 vaccines for fair distribution to both rich and poor countries.
According to the WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday, evenly administering vaccines is "the fastest way to safeguard high-risk communities, stabilize health systems and drive a truly global economic recovery."
According to the WHO, there are almost 200 candidate vaccines being developed worldwide, with 44 of them in clinical trials.
Ecuador and Uruguay were the latest countries to join the initiative.
