U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary in Taiwan, despite Beijing's objections Updated: 2020-08-10 06:02:05 KST

The U.S. health chief arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a three-day visit, despite continued objections by China against official contact between Washington and Taipei.
During the visit, which is expected to further irritate Sino-U.S. relations, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar is scheduled to sit down with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.
This is the first high-level visit by an American official since the U.S. broke off its official ties with Taipei in 1979 in favor of Beijing.
