S. Korea performs successful lung transplant on COVID-19 patient Updated: 2020-07-02 17:16:56 KST

South Korea has become only the fourth country in the world to complete a successful lung transplant on a COVID-19 patient.
The operation was conducted on a woman late last month at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital just outside of Seoul.
She was suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, a hardening of the lungs, and had been put under intensive care for one-hundred-12 days after contracting the virus in late February.
The patient, in her 50s, is now reportedly breathing well on her own and undergoing rehabilitation.
The only other countries to perform the same surgery to a success are China, the U.S., and Austria.
