More than 1,000 people killed by Iranian security forces since start of protests: U.S. State Dept. Updated: 2019-12-06 16:27:39 KST

The U.S. State Department says Iranian security forces may have killed more than a thousand people since protests started in Iran in November over gas price hikes.
The U.S. Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook, told reporters on Thursday that while more than one-thousand people were killed, many thousands more have been wounded and at least seven-thousand have been detained during the brutal crackdown.
He added the numbers were not definitive as Tehran blocks much information from leaking.
Iran, however, denies the U.S. claims, insisting Washington's figures are starkly different from the actual numbers.
