Trump administration open to idea of war-separated family reunions: U.S. East Asia envoy Updated: 2019-09-19 16:24:31 KST

America's top official on East Asia is sounding positive about the idea of holding reunions for Korean-Americans and their long-lost families in North Korea.
The Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian Affairs, David Stillwell, told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday that such reunions would be a "great idea," adding he will relay the message to the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, Stephen Biegun.
Stillwell was responding to Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman who suggested in the hearing that the Trump administration should pursue a reunion, saying nearly 100-thousand Korean-Americans have relatives in the North they haven't seen since the war.
