UK PM, EC President fail to reach Brexit deal Updated: 2019-09-17 13:12:38 KST

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is still trying to reach a longshot deal on Brexit even after rather unproductive talks with the EU's chief negotiator.
At lunch Monday in Luxembourg with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Johnson only reaffirmed that the UK will leave the EU on October 31st as scheduled with or without an agreement.
The European Commission insists it's Britain's responsibility to come up with what it calls "legally operational backstop solutions," but such proposals, it says, haven't been made yet.
Luxembourg, the host country for Monday's talks, described the situation as a "nightmare."
