Campaigning for S. Korea's June 1 local elections begins

Campaigning has officially begun for South Korea's local elections and several parliamentary by-elections upcoming on June 1st.
The two major parties are vying for the posts of mayor and governor in 17 cities and provinces.
The ruling conservative People Power Party is looking to build on its success in the presidential election in March, while the main opposition Democratic Party wants to make up for its defeat.
A major battleground is the capital region the cities of Seoul and Incheon, and Gyeonggi-do Province.
That's where the parliamentary by-elections will see two political heavyweights on the ballot former presidential candidates Lee Jae-myung and Ahn Cheol-soo.
