The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, approved a third shot of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for children. aged 5 to 11 for administration at least five months after their first two-doses.
The decision comes as the FDA cited data, which showed that the protection provided by two shots wanes over time.
It also determined that a third shot can help boost protection for children in this age group.
The drug regulator did not identify any new safety concerns after its trials and found children experienced the same mild side effects that other people do after receiving a booster shot.
