The funeral and burial ceremony for South Korea's first four-star general was held earlier today.
General Paik Sun-yup, a hero of the Korean War who led key battles and contributed greatly to the modernization of the country's armed forces, passed away last Friday at the age of 99.
After a five-day mourning period at the Asan Medical Center in Seoul, he now rests at Daejeon National Cemetery.
His family members, top South Korean military commanders and senior officials from U.S. Forces Korea attended the funeral.
The U.S. State Department has offered its condolences as well..
It said Paik's service during the Korean War was emblematic of the fight for the values of freedom and democracy, values that both the U.S. and South Korea uphold to this day.
