"The Land" is based on the late prominent Korean writer Park Kyung-ni's novel of the same name. This is an epic drama that sheds new light on Korea's modern history. The novel "The Land" began its first serial publication in 1969 and was completed in 1995 as a pentaptych with 21 volumes. It is a voluminous novel that traces four generations of characters.
The drama follows the turbulent life of Choi Seo-hee as she lives throughout the Donghak Peasant Revolution, the Eulmi Incident, the Japanese colonial era, and Korea's independence in 1945. As in the novel, the drama portrays the conflicts between individuals who are engulfed in their own desires of love and veiled enmity, rage and jealousy, all entangled together like a spider's web.
