Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are lighting devices that are brighter and longer-lasting, but they haven't become popular yet because of their price tags. Recently, however, companies in Korea and abroad have developed cheaper LEDs in an attempt to popularize them. And, in Korea, market conditions are becoming more favorable for LEDs, thanks to growing electricity costs and the gradual withdrawal of conventional light bulbs. 'Insight' spotlights how much progress Korea's semiconductor industry has made in LED production and how much potential it has in global markets.
