The Saemangeum Land Reclamation Project encompasses 40,100 hectares of reclaimed land that is five times bigger than New York City's Manhattan. The 33.9 km Saemangeum sea dike is the longest of its kind in the world.
Despite the many obstacles, Korea’s largest public work project has ambitiously moved ahead with blueprints to build a multi-functional urban space, industrial complex, farmland, leisure spaces, and facilities that deliver better quality of life in a one-stop, luxurious living space. It has engendered discussions on the urban image people wish see.
We take viewers to the Netherlands, which held the title for possessing the world’s longest seawall for many years until the completion of the Saemangeum sea dike. We will look at the success of the Port of Rotterdam, the largest port in Europe with an excellent logistics system and port hinterland. We bring you the story of a retired Dutchman who worked in water management for most of his career and now lives in a lakeside home where he engages in birdwatching.
