For the living ocean and breathing coast
In the small waterfront city Yeosu takes place a festival of the ocean. The Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea is held under the theme "the living ocean and coast." Attended by 104 countries, the Expo sheds light on the value of the ocean and coast, climate change, shortage of resources, destruction of the ecosystem and more. It helps us realize that marine disasters are not problems limited to certain regions, but are problems that affect the whole earth.
Various sights, a celebration of festivities
The daily 100,000 visitors who come to the Yeosu Expo meet various entertainments and sights. The aquarium, where visitors get to see over 34,000 types of marine life, including beluga, is the most popular stop. The Sky Tower, once an abandoned cement silo, has been reformed into a huge pipe organ. The sounds travel up to 6km, putting the instrument on the Guinness Book of World Records. The 218m long digital gallery which brings together cutting edge IT technology of Korea and the ocean, adds to the wide spectrum of sights to enjoy.
Yeosu communicates with the world
The international pavilions are where visitors can check out the interest of each country regarding the ocean and water. Alongside the USA Pavilion which focuses on global responsibility, each country exhibits its future marine technology and culture. The staff members involved are not shy to express their pleasant surprise regarding Korea. Isabel at the Swiss Pavilion volunteered to come to Yeosu to get a firsthand experience of Korea. Many foreign staff members including Ruba from the Israel Pavilion and Nim Seok-wi from the Singapore Pavilion say that the Expo has allowed them to understand and communicate with each other. A 93-day festival that aims to find hope and future for the ocean and life. The global effort for a more sustainable earth lights up Yeosu. |
