Last November, the 19th World Taekwondo Competition took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. The competition, which takes place once every two years, was a big event this year with 982 participants from 142 countries. There was a country with just one athlete participating, and there were female athletes who competed with hijabs on!
New rules and regulations were enforced as well. The 10-meter-wide court became 8 meters wide and electronic chest protectors and video replay were added as well. Also, the point system ranging from 1 to 3 was enforced. These new rules and regulations made Taekwondo more dynamic. As a result, the competition turned out to be the best ever, with many twists and new world records.
Since the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Taekwondo has found its place as a global sport! Our cameras captured the event that turned Korea’s Taekwondo into the world’s Taekwondo.
